The Parkside Insider: March 4, 2022
In 1976, when I was assistant to Derek Prime at Charlotte Chapel, Bruce Milne was a guest speaker for a special weekend. I can still recall his sermons and the manner in which they were delivered. As a young man, hoping to learn how to preach, I paid careful attention, as he provided a model of humility, clarity, and warm persuasiveness.

In due course, he moved to Canada to lecture alongside the late J. I. Packer at Regent College. His best-known book has been a staple diet for the leadership here at Parkside. Know the Truth is of immense help in understanding basic Christian doctrine.

It is vital that we know what we believe and why we believe it. Early this morning, I overheard a conversation as a chef witnessed clearly and kindly to a security guard, explaining the wonder of God’s love in Jesus. Such opportunities abound, and we must be ready to give an answer to those who ask about the basis of our hope.

It is important for us not only to know what we believe but also to be convinced about where we belong. Part of the fallout of COVID can be seen in the missing members in local churches.

Last Week's Sermon
from Hebrews 7:11-28

Salvation is found in Christ alone. The Old Testament law and priesthood could not secure perfection; rather, it pointed forward to Jesus, a superior High Priest, who, by the power of His indestructible life, established His eternal priesthood—a priesthood guaranteed with an oath. Jesus, our Savior and our great High Priest, is able to save to the uttermost and always lives to intercede on our behalf. As believers, our lives and our faith are sustained by Jesus intercessory prayers.

Prayer and Support for Ukraine

Our prayers are with the people of Ukraine and Russia. We encourage you to be in prayer for them and for this situation.

Many have been asking how they can help during this time. If you would like to support the Ukrainian people in addition to your regular giving, you can designate your gift by selecting “Ukraine Relief Fund,” online, or by writing “Ukraine Relief” on the memo line of your check. Parkside will direct those funds toward a gospel relief ministry which is working right now within Ukraine to deploy field hospitals and distribute food, and in neighboring countries to assist refugees.
